from a family member who has sent cards in the past.

uknowme, I just asked a question - jeesh. Now I'm being judged. We haven't even met and you wouldn't want me in your family. Who cares. I've got a loving family and fantastic friends, thank you. I just wanted people's thoughts, thats all. And just because I posed it doesn't mean I'm botherd by something petty as a piece of paper. I asked out of curiousity. Looking at the question, I can't tell from an objective point of view if the questioner is happy, sad, or angry. So why make assumptions? The question looks neutral to me and not laced with any negative emotions. Just straight and to the point.

I really don't care. I would rather have a phone call.

I can't answer why your family treats you like this, but it is obvious to me that even if the things they say about you are not true they find things that you do very unacceptable and so it is easy for them to believe these things about you. If that was my family I would call them all up and tell them to shut it. Then break off contact with them until they come to their senses. But make them talk to you face to face don't try to resolve anything over the phone unless distance is a problem for you. And there is nothing wrong with giving someone a birthday card and any adult should be happy with it. BDay presents are for kids and spouses.

As long as they remember why get petty? Geez, good thing you're not in my family. I don't get calls or cards some years. At some point you have to grow up and realize your birthday isn't a big celebration.

I feel that a phone call is rather more personal and touching than a card. I will much appreciate it and encourage others to do so.

I don't mind not getting a card. I sure like the phone call. It's personal and sure is nice hearing the voice.

nope. doesn't bother me in the least. we're not a close knit family and we barely remember each other's names....just kidding about that, but we call each other on christmas, birthdays and that's about it. cards? forget it.

Not only do I mind, but if the card doesn't have money in it,

I throw it right in the trash without even reading it.
