I am looking to create a fence for the back wall of my house that kind of has the properties of a garage door. The Reason I want to make it kind of like a garage door is because the opening to the back alley is kind of curved. But I need some ideas. Please help. I have some things in mind but I want to see what ideas are out there.

I agree with Cowboy; in that a pre built will save effort; perhaps even some dollars; while still allowing you the flexibility to have a section devoted to a door/gate.

No offense but curved and garage door in this example aren't exactly clear; especially in reference to each other.

Garage doors could mean wide single or a double swing open/ sliding/overhead lift/ etc. Pretty obvious to me is that overhead lift would be about as impractical as trying to turn a stockade panel into a radius panel.

Swing out/in would be the easiest way to go possibly. Sliding would mean added support to any section into which the door actually had to open into. Tracks of some sort might have to be installed; although I have seen gate sections using a decent/substantial Wheel at the base to aid in opening.

Without knowing your thoughts of the details of the property line; etc. It's a bit difficult to be exact.

If you are not limited to height, you can build a high structure which raises and lowers the gate. You would need two high posts and a tie across the top for stability. You would need slides on each side and you could use counter weights on each side. This would make the gate light and easy to raise and lower. If you wanted to get fancier you could install an automatic opener using parts from an automatic garage door opener..

I would think the best and, cheapest idea is to go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a Pre-built.
