The end of my initial lease term is at the end of october. I absolutely must leave the apartment at the end of that month... seeing as how i have plans to leave the country. I may have signed a written notification, i don't remember. If i didn't, however, is there any way to avoid the extra 2 months of payment???? It seems ridiculous in a way.

"Resident agrees to provide at least 60 days' written notice prior to the end of the term. Specifically, resident agrees to provide at least 60 days' written notice before the end of the initial lease term in order to terminate this lease at the end of the initial term. Without 60 days' prior written notice, then this agreement will be extended for 60 days from the end of the initial term with all terms remaining the same."

This is not unusual at all. Contrary to what another poster stated there is no scam involved.

You signed the lease and agreed to the terms. If you don't provide the required notice, expect to pay for the extra 30 days.

If your lease contract is set to end on a particular date and you have not renewed the lease then that end date is your last day. I don't think this clause will hold in court as in most cases your worst case would be that the lease defaults to a month to month basis and not a 2 month. I would assume you rent from a indicidual who drew up a lease with out verifying info. You can always do an internet search for landlord tenant laws in your state. It will spell out the end of lease term info for you. Good luck with the move.

This is no scam. You signed a legally binding contract and you must uphold the terms. How do you not remember if you signed an notice or not??? Check with your landlord.

Sounds like a scam. I would just give notice you wont be renewing the lease, and move.
