When we learn something, we can think about things differently, perhaps from a new perspective. If what you've learned has enabled you to do something different or new, due to pondering your newfound understanding(s), then that is your application.
Can the knowledge/information resulting from your project be of benefit to humans, animals, the environment? If it can, that is how you apply what you learned. Tell your instructor why your findings are important, or valid.
Best wishes for a delightful learning experience.

This means, based on the subject/ inquiry you have done and the conclusions drawn from it, what has it taght you in practical terms-- how can you USE what you have learned? Without knowing the subject (hearing it won't help; haven't done biology in years)... it means if your conclusion was XYZ, how would that affect other parts of your work in this area? What impact would the conclusions have?

Applying something means taking the academic/theoretical conclusions, and using them in a real, practical sense. Hope this helps!

sounds like a goofy round about way of asking - what did you learn, and how would/could you use that?

I think it means, "What does what you found mean? How would it help solve a problem?"
