Well, I'm 17, and my girlfriend is 14.
I turn 18 in May, 08, and she's 15 in Dec. 07.
We live in Florida

Anyway, I've been hearing some things that in Florida, the age limit is within 4 years, well, what if one is over 18?
What if we were dating before I was 18?
Is that really the law in Florida?
Should we splint and find someone else?

Well, it seems we really do, truly love each other, and sex hasn't even been involved.
I'm not the first 17 year old she dated, and She's not the first 14 year old I dated.

Any help at all would be really great, thanks.

Thanks for the fast replies you guys, because it's really been bugging me. I understand she needs too grow up, I tell her every night on the phone that her school work comes before us, and it's more important.
We trust each other with a lot of stuff, and even though sex is not a factor, we still like each other very much. I don't know what too do about her parent, but her step-dad found out, and he's okay with it, but should I tell her mom, and explain it too her?

Thanks you guys.

She also just got out of a 2 and a half year relationship, and she's not a virgin, I on the other hand am. I don't think sex would become a factor until she's at least AOC (Age of consent)

It's not really 3-4 years, it's more like 2-3 years, and she fine with me being a virgin and such.

We've been friends for about 3 years now, and we just started dating...I'll try talking too her about some things you guys have brought up, thanks...I'm still waiting too pick the best answer.

Thanks alot you guys

You are walking a fine line. My husband and I got together when I was 14 and he was 17 and are still together. We've been together 21 yr and married 18 yrs. However if one of her parents wants to they can cause you all kinds of trouble. Be very careful and DO NOT have sex with her until she reaches the age of consent, whatever it is there. I don't know what the laws are in Florida so I can't help you there.

Even though there is only a 3 year difference in your age, 15 is really young for an 18 year old. I'm glad to read that sex is not a factor because at 15 she's WAY too young. I honestly think that unless you start having sex it probably isn't even a legal issue. Believe you me, as in love as you think you are she doesn't really know what love is, not yet. She's a kid. You're dating a child - just something to keep in mind should sex ever become a factor.

In the current environment, be very, very careful. It isn't the difference in ages, as I understand it, it is the fact that you are over 17 (above the age of consent) and she is younger. There is a case here in Texas where her parents filed a complaint of sexual harrassment and tried to withdraw it and were not allowed to do it. He was labeled a sexual preditor for life even though he married her (older than 14) and under the current rather stupidly excessive laws, they can't live with in 1000' feet of a school or play ground.
And although legally it is actual sex, if you look older and she looks younger, you may be harrased by strangers meaning well. There was a Law and Order: SVU on the problems, including from police, of a very small young looking woman who was of age and her guy who was 29 or so.

Sorry, but I think you are both asking for trouble. At almost 18, you should be dating girls closer to your own age.

Even though you haven't had sex (good for you!), it can sometimes be very hard to remain in control when you are in an exclusive relationship. And at her young age, she has not yet developed the good judgment she will have when she is older.

If you want to keep seeing each other, then don't make it exclusive. If you both date other people, there will be less chance that you will do something you regret.

If it's real, it will wait.

EDIT ON YOUR ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Yikes! She was in a relationship at 12??? And is sexually active?? This girl will not be happy with a no-sex relationship and sooner or later you will have some big problems on your hands. Break up with her.

Too many adults are making your situation worse than helping it get better. A 17 year old male is in jail for having sex with a 15 year old female in Georgia. Politicians write laws on how to tell people how to live their lives.

Florida's laws are not well written.

As long as sex is not involved your OK. But your 17 and you need alot of self control. Remember American Pie? Make sure you lock your door so your dad doesn't walk in. Also leave mom's baked goods alone.

3 to 4 years age difference isn't really a big deal.

Sex with a minor is.

Conduct yourself accordingly.

I don't remember who said this, but someone on Y!A said 'Age is just a number. Nothing can truly stop love.'
