There are numerous ways this could have happened. One is that you may have been playing sound on your laptop and it just so happened that your speakers were not able to fully handle the power going to them, so they basically blew-out. Or you could have some slight motherboard damage that is interfering with your sound card's ability to transfer data to the speakers. I'd recommend you take your computer to a maintenance specialist. It's not the sort of thing you should handle yourself. But it could also be a software problem. Like I said, I'd recommend taking it to a specialist.

I have a desktop and my sound keeps going out. I got a program and when I installed it the sound came back. A couple of times I downloaded Windows Media Player again, free at Microsoft, and got the sound back. I keep having trouble with midis and downloading Quicktime helped for a while. I think when a Windows Media Player file gets corrupted the other players don't work either. Shutting down a program wrongly may cause the problem. Use the usual exit from the program. I think the programs vie with each other for control and that may corrupt a fileor do something. With many files it may not hurt, but some are critical. Hope that helps. I have some unrelated material on my profile, although, admittedly, some of it requires some study, it helps with life, and we so much need that in today's world, so I recommend it to everyone. With all the information today, most people pass it up, but it truly will rock your world, if you have the paciense and wisdom and can get it. It's all free and if you get it, people will say of you, "She's got it", because the information is really it. The intuition and Emotional Intelligence give you super people skills that make you stand out in a crowd. Not really that hard either. I try to help people get it free also. Everyone has a purpose.
