Because people are stupid and shallow. I'm not going to lie but I put labels on everyone and everything because that is just my personality. I usually use this for the basis of all my jokes that state true stuff about people and things. Although I may do this I definitely don't let it control what I do or who I hang out with. I just like being funny and sarcastic.

Labels are put on people to stereo type them. Some people feel that everything has to be labeled and when something don't fit into their labels they panic. I don't like labels either, I try to make sure I don't fit into any label.

Labels help people identify others at a later time...your're a "human" and that IS a label....whatever you choose to call something is a label.

Because perhaps they need to create a name for what they want, what they dislike, in order to explain what they missed in their life so they have to pay attention "outside"....
If people where more interested in themselves, they would find something more interesting to do than "labeling" the others...

Oh I agree. I don't label myself..someone once said on here "Labels are for clothes only"
I mean be who you are and let's be unlabeled for that!

I do not label anyone! It is cruel and usually makes no sense whatsoever. It is also dehumanizing.

Nor do I. I think it's done by ppl that have way to much time on their hands and very low self esteem. Makes them look and feel better about themselves.

I do not like them either, but they might have their use. They are really good as reference. And they might be used as a bad example.
The trick with them i think is to learn how and when to use them, and never "against" someone.

Because they fear who they don't really know and so they demonise those they don't know with a label.
