Do you have an advisor at school yet? If you do, talk to them, and ask. They would be able to tell you exactly what you needed to do in order to get the appropriate degree or certification.

It varies from state to state. In most states you will need a bachelor's degree in a teacher education program and a state license to teach. You will then need a Master of Education (MEd) degree in school counseling at the level you want to counsel in. Some programs require teaching experience before you are admitted to the counseling program.

You can learn about this career field in your state best from a practicing school counselor. http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos067.htm offers additional information including earnings and education requirements.
