I want to by a book clip/light thing that claims the LED light lasts "100,000 hours". I suck at doing math in my head, so how many months/years would 100,000 hours equal to?

Ok, so 11.4 - 11.5 years seems to be the general consensus. Thank you all for your help and for answering so quickly!

About 11.4 15524 years if on continuously. IF it could possibly last that long. I made a stupid error the first time. That goes to show me how the thought process is clouded when the body & brain are deprived of sleep.

Well 1 day = 24 hours

100,000/24 = 4167

that makes it 4167 days
about 30 days a month

4167/30 = 139 months

12 months in a year

139/12 = 11.5 years

so that should mean 100,000 hours is approximately 11.5 years

I hope that helps=]

24 hours in a day

April, June, September, November have 30 days
February has 28 or 29 days
all other months have 31 days

typically 365 days in a year (or 366 days in a leap year (every 4 years, except years divisible by 100))

Assuming that you left the LED on for 24 hours a day/7 days a week:
100000 hours / 24 hours/day = 4166.666666666...... days
99984 hours / 24 hours/day = 4166 days
100000 hours = 4166 days and 16 hours

now, we figure on how many years that'll be. given that a year is at least 365 days, 4166 days is more than 10 years, so you'll hit at least one leap year in there...
4166 days / 365 days/year ~= 11.41 years
365*10 + 366 = 4016 days (10 regular years and one leap year)
4166 days = 10 regular years, one leap year, 50 days

50 days is about 1 + 2/3 months.

So, 100,000 hours is roughly just under 11 years, 2 months.

24 hours in the day

161 hours in a week

8760 hours in a year

So 100,000 hours = 11.4 years

100,000 / 24 = 4,166.66667 days

365 x 24 = 8,760 days in year

11.4155251 x 12 = 136.986301 months
100,000 / 8760 = 11.4155251 years

100,000 hours = 11.4 years

100,000 hours/24 hours per day = 4166.67 days
4166.67 days/365.25 days per year = 11.4077 years
(the 365.25 counts for the leap year every 4 years).
