Depends on the Girl.
It makes the irratable. Therefore, for a lot of girls they get frustrated with people really fast....making them want to seclude themselves....

I personally have never withdrawn, nor have I known any of my friends to withdraw from socialization.

But then I could easily see if they are in severe pain or bloated or are the kind of woman who hates her period with a vengeance a woman may not want to be around others too much.

Depends on the girl or woman. If they are just withdrawing from you, what do you think that means?

She may have been tired, or just wanted to be on her own. Although sometimes women do suffer pre menstal tension and this can effect their moods. But that doesn't mean that she was more distant because of "that time of month".
Too often women's moods are blamed on their periods.
She may have just needed her own space. We all have good and bad days and that reflects on the way we are around people.

I think it is very normal. A woman's body is going through alot of changes. Different woman react differently. I for one become quiet.... mostly because I don't feel well and would rather not say something I will regret. Just be happy that she is quiet and withdrawn rather than mean and hateful.

CRAMPS
Yes, horrible pain like your insides are pressing down and twisting and about ready to fall out from between your legs. Hows that for making you all chatty and perky?
Many women are tired, bloated, and in pain during menses.
