My new condo has many central air vents in the ceiling. However, in every room, the vents are all pointing towards the windows and sliding glass door. Is this right? Wouldn't they serve a better purpose pointing towards the center of the room??

The vents are un-adjustable, but I would be able to flip the direction of the air by unscrewing and re-applying the fixture on the ceiling. What should I do here? It seems to be working just ok, but I want to make sure I'm not using excess energy. I don't want Al Gore knocking down my door!

Thanks,

Steve

That is correct. You'll get more uniform temperature throughout your condo when the air vents are directed toward the source of heat (in the summer) or cold (in the winter). If you turn the vents toward the center of the room, there will be poorer circulation of air in the corners. Also, it is better not to have the air blowing directly on people.

I'm a heating/cooling guy, and he is rite,, u need the vents @ the windows or u would ask why is my house so cold and drafty in the winter, You can go to Home Depot & alike and ask for " Vent defusers" they stick to the vents magneticly and force the air toward the center of the room, they are only a few $s each and pay for themselves FAST.

I don't think it's a problem. The heat vents are by the windows and doors because that is where the coldest air is and you want to heat that area first.

If you are really worried about it, go ahead and turn the vents the other way.

Probably just an oversight by the contractor. I'd just reposition them. You can also go to Home Depot and purchase air flow controllers. They are usually made of plastic, stick to the vent, and help better direct the flow of the air.
