I don't think the phrase "self-absorbed" is useful for you given this situation. If you have issues with your body image, you have issues with your body image. Sadly, it's very common.
Like countless others, you're faced with several tasks ahead of you. 1) to get and remain healthy (different than skinny), 2) to not put so much value on the potential interpretations or judgments from others, 3) to prioritize school above things like this, 4) to find professional help if you can't do this on your own.

I think you are self conscious. Do people make fun of you? That can be such a horrid thing. My little brother was always a very big person. He was no good at sports, but he is a genius. He got straight As all through school. Your cousin is self absorbed. She didn't even have time to listen to you. I am so sorry for that. You could try to drop some of the weight. Go to a community center that has some good exercise equipment. Not many jocks will be there. Good luck to you.

You are self conscious and your reasons make sense from the way you describe BUT you should understand that you are putting yourself in a self-made prison for some reason. Whether that reason is fear of people or fear of becoming the best you can be...I really don't know because I don't know your whole situation well enough or you for that matter.
You can start by taking away the excuses that keep you from living your life. Try to lose some weight and while you're doing it, make yourself do some 'social' things in order to raise your level of self acceptance.
You don't accept yourself and that is the hardest battle of all.
Hope this helps.

you are not only self consious but you might also might be suffering from depression, go seek help otherwise you will never live a full life, you need to realize that although you might be over weight, there's gotta be something good in you, don't let tv, society and the media tell you what you should look like, go see a counselor. a little tip if you want listen to the Jessica Simpson Song called "In this Skin" I know she's a skinny anorexic B*tch but the song really hits home for me....Good luck

You have a fear of being judged that overcomes your need for and obligation for other people. You have the right to love yourself and be loved even if you don't look like a model. I'm overweight and I just thank god that I have all my parts and they all work and I also have my health. If you started having major health problems and thought you were going to die but then they faded away, you would probably see life much differently. Believe in yourself and other people will believe in you and weight loss will come along with your confidence and your determination to not accept fat as your identity or fate.
