My Math teacher told me, if I can find up to date proof that pi is irrational then he would give me an extra 5 points on my average. I really need these points to not fail, but I cant find any up to date proof that pi is irratioal. Can some one help me please?

Check out this link. You asked for a proof ... here it is. Try the second one also

Pi can't be converted into a finite decimal. That is, Pi is a constant number 3 and 1/7 or 22/7. When you try to convert it into a decimal it becomes a number 3.14161512... it never solves or ends, it's infinite. It goes on forever. Irrational numbers are much the same. 1/3 changes in 0.333333333333333.............and goes on forever.
Pi originated in the building of the ancient pyramids. There's a relationship to a cubit and pi. A cubit is approximately the distance from your elbow to tip of your fingers. Because a cubit is only an approximation of a distance, Pi is 3 and 1/7 times an approximate cubit. That's why it can't be expressed in a rational form.

Good luck

Pi is irrational because it cannot be expressed as a ratio!

Rational simply means that it can be expressed as a ratio, like 1/4 is a ratio and 5 can be expressed as 5/1

But the fact that pi goes on infinately and randomly means that its impossible to be expressed as a ratio, and therefore irrational.

Here are some more examples of each to make sure you've got it down:

RATIONAL:

67
.333333333333....
3456.80
.543543543543...
2
1/4

IRRATIONAL

.987659438769387....
67.9367497694.....
√2

see any pattern?

I don't know why your math teacher is challenging you so much.

its irrational because there is no way that you can write pi (in number form)

pi is irrational because it is non-repeating and non-terminating.
