well, that would make it more fair,
but still - women need that extra level of protection, because they are less responsible
Oooh three thumbs down - ouch!

I'm am curious as to how you think abortions only in cases of rape would work out. Would the woman have to prove she was raped, or would they just take her word for it? If you think a woman would have to prove she is raped you would have to take into consideration that many women don't come forward until sometime later, if at all. Most rapes aren't committed by strangers hitting a women over the head with a crowbar in some alley and then raping her. Most rapes are committed by someone the women knows, and most of the time they are non-violent (ie the women was passed out drunk or high), so in that case the woman may not realize she was raped for sometime. Even if she had a rape kit done and they found semen, for all they know she could have just had irresponsible sex and is now saying she was raped so she can get the abortion.
And also, would the attacker have to be convicted to allow the women to get the abortion? Many times such trials drag on for weeks or months, which by that time the fetus could be well into the 3rd trimester or even have been born.
Anyway, to answer your question. Birth control is not always 100% effective, and human error can occur. If my birth control were to ever fail, it is nice to know that I have the choice to abort. Even if a woman is not responsible with her birth control, yet does not want to be pregnant, do we really want her to be responsible for other human being if she clearly cannot be responsible for even herself?
I also don't believe in the government interfering in people's lives in such a personal way.

NOT just a woman is responsible for a pregnancy. It takes two to tango. Like the previous person--no birth control, aside from abstinence, is 100% guarnteeted. If a person uses protection and it is not effective then they should have the right to choose their own fate. We live in the United States...you know, where people have rights. A man has reproductive rights-wear a rubber, be responsible, and communicate with your sexual partner. Oh--and who said that birth control isn't good enough for women? I don't think it's good to generalize about all women in this manner or to throw the term feminists out there---since when did it become such a dirty thing to be a feminists? What is the world coming to.

Well, that's why abortion should be legal, and not just for cases involving rape or incest, but to anyone who wants one.
If abortion suddenly became illegal overnight as in the hypothetical situation that you've presented us, that would indeed probably have the effect of making women ten times more careful about who they have sex with and how, but unwanted children would STILL HAPPEN. Before there were condoms, birth control hormones, and abortions, there were still unplanned children. Problem is, throughout history, the men who created said children didn't always take the moral high ground and make an honest woman out of the mother or help her take care of the kid. A lot of times they would scram, just as they would in this modern age if women weren't provided access to these "reproductive benefits".
There have been unwanted children throughout history. It's nothing new. The feminist movement and/or pro-abortion advocates didn't create the phenomenon by any stretch.
That being said, a sexually-intelligent woman is still responsible for not saddling herself with an unwanted pregnancy. She can (and should) go about making sure this doesn't happen by making her partner wear a condom, putting on a condom herself, or putting herself on birth control. Furthermore, what's the matter with giving men reproductive rights? I don't see any problem there. To be a good feminist, you have to be 50% masculinist as well.
I do have to wonder if you caught the hypocrisy in the last sentence of your query, though. "Are women looking for a free ticket to as much unprotected and irresponsible sex as they want?" Oh, my friend. It is to laugh...

I for one don't think abortion should be illegal period. But, I do think that the responsability NOT to get pregnant to begin with is both peoples worry. The only real reason I can see for the woman not to use birth control, in particular the pill, is the health risks involved. Also, condoms are a bit more reliable ( I got pregnant twice on the pill ) and they protect from disease. If anyone, man or woman, is just out for as much unprotected and irresponsible sex as they want then they are just idiots and need to wise up.

Slow down! You are being unfair to women. Just because you mybe had a bad experience with a woman then don't generalise! Not all women are the same. Women don't go out looking for unprotected sex, some men just don't think about the woman. they think only of themselves. Some men refuse to wear a condom. If a woman says no she doesn't want to have unprotected sex then she stands a major risk of being raped because some men seem to think that whatever they want they can get. Cut the women some slack, you clearly have no idea what it's like to be a woman so basically stop talking about things you don't know about!
If the women are so bad to you, why not turn gay???

Obviously you know very little about the effectiveness of contraception. Nothing is 100% fool-proof except abstinence. And yes, I support the notion that it would be best to be abstinent if you want to be certain you don't get pregnant. But how realistic is that? People are going to have sex. Contraception does not always prevent pregnancy. In fact, pregnancy probably occurs more often than people think while using a supposedly "98% effective" form of birth control. I've become pregnant four times despite a "98% effective birth control" method. And what about rape victims? Do they have a choice about whether or not the rape results in an unwanted pregnancy? And what of abortions that are performed because of medical reasons that would pose a danger to the mother if she tried to carry the fetus to term?
It's not all about "responsibility"...it's not a black or white issue. There's a whole hell of a lot of "grey area" in between.
Women aren't "looking for a free ticket to as much unprotected and irresponsible sex as they want"- they are looking for the right to have control over their own bodies- and for a variety of very good reasons.

A friend of mine's sister just had a baby about a month ago. She was on the pill, they used a condom and spermicide. I also know several women who got pregnant because their doctors failed to tell them that antibiotics greatly reduce the effectiveness of their birth control pills. Any one of these women could have chosen to have an abortion and it would not have been irresponsibility on their part that got them into the situation. And before you make commentary about pre-marital sex...all the women I've mentioned were married. I personally believe that abortions that are used as a form of birth control are repulsive, but my beliefs are not everyones, nor should they be.

That is one of the stupidest statements that I've seen on here! Even if a woman has to chose an abortion it's not a easy thing to do for her body. A man does not have to go through with either birth or an abortion which no matter which method you use means some trauma to a woman's body. When men have to deliver the child than they can have the decision of having them. And while you're at it why do more men want a woman to have an abortion when the woman gets pregnant?? How come more single women are raising their children alone because the men have abandon their children ?? Maybe when more men are responsible about taking care of their children whether they are married to the mother or not most woman wouldn't think that they would have to make that decision by themselves. Women don't get pregnant by themselves yet most men want them to make sure that they are using the pill or some other form of birth control. When men take equal responsibility for their actions than maybe it would be an even playing field but until than when women have to worry about taking care of the child by themselves than I guess it's up to the woman to make sure that they are taken care of.

A lot of women like to use hormonal birth control plus condoms because neither are 100% effective. They are only about 98% and thats with PERFECT use. But I have known girls who have gotten pregnant while on the pill or while using a condom.
Some men are so ignorant and conceited when it comes to this stuff.
Men have no say in this because they aren't the ones who have to go through pregnancy and give birth.
EDIT- I just read all your other questions and you seem like a big misogynistic dummy.
no offense :]
What rights are you talking about? If they get a girl pregnant and she was on birth control and he was wearing a condom, i think they dont have a right to say they want the baby and the girl should be able to get an abortion because obviously she did not want it. and even if there wasnt any protection, even though thats unwise, if the girl doesnt want it than thats too bad for the guy. if he wants it so bad he can carry it around him for 9 months and squeeze it out of a tiny hole in his body which will cause irreversible damage to his body.

Do you imagine moms might want to be allowed to kill children at, say age 2? Days or hours after beginning? If homicide is faulty at beginning, why is it ok the day formerly? children are born at 23 weeks were worry-free to live on. Your excuse that those who've sex at a gentle age did not act responsibly and hence should not be held responsible for the outcomes, is ridiculous good judgment. before everything, Up till 2-3 generations in the past, adult men and females many times married top out of highschool. in the adventure that they were responsible then, they might want to be held responsible now. And in case you're not from now on going to carry them responsible for having children, they ought to not be allowed to vote, rigidity, or signal a freelance for much as a cellular telephone. They absolutely don't have the means to make the determination to have an abortion without parental consent, because in the adventure that they are not responsible, they could ensue at a hospital very resembling those in Philedelphia or Houston and get themselves killed alongside with their infant.
