Smeather thank you for your opinion.
If abortion is illegal when or where I become a doctor than believe me I will do it. It is no choice for me between womens lives or the law.

Paul: women still die in childbirth even in 1st world countries. Early stage abortion is medically safer than childbirth.

There is a distinction between legality and morality. The government can control what is legal in my life, but no one gets to determine what is moral, but me. Yes, I would do my best to help a woman find safe and responsible care is she chose to have an abortion, even if it were illegal. This is despite the fact that I am personally pro-life, because morality is relative and I do not believe that anyone has the right to dictate others' choices.

I support legal access to abortions, at least in the first trimester.
However, I do not think that breaking the law, if the law is changed, would be morally justified.
Just as those who attack abortion clinics and doctors are not justified in their law-breaking, despite their claim to follow a "higher law".
But I have a fairly high standard for when breaking an unjust law is justified. Others may have different standards.
EDIT
Actually, I'd need to give more thought to the matter. The "civil disobedience" angle does have some merit, but my general initial position is that people ought to respect the law and making exceptions needs to be considered with great caution.
EDIT
I meant "civil disobedience" regarding the initial question, not regarding abortion clinic bombers and such. The latter are total hypocrites.
GREENGO
First of all, while the morning after pill is a standard part of the 'rape kit' when a woman reports a rape, many rapes are not reported. And many women are too traumatized after being raped to take it within the alloted time-frame. That's one of the reasons that, even though I generally oppose abortion after the first trimester, I think an exception needs to be made for cases of rape. A woman's whole life may be turned upside down by being raped and that's one of the clearest reasons why a delay SHOULD be allowed.
Also, regarding debates about saving the mother's life: Catholic Hospitals have had a policy of saving the child's life even at the expense of the mother's when complications occurred, so there are those who opposed EVEN that exception.

Every woman has a right to make an informed decision concerning her body, It was stated "why did the child" have to pay for its mothers mistakes. I ask why does an unwanted child be forced to come into a world where it is not wanted, Just because the Pro Life lobby Thinks it their moral obligation to do so. I have work ed as a youth/drug abuse Counselor with the unwanted throw away children that live in the cities underground drainage system. The Pro Life people only insist that they be born into this world and their moral obligation is done, They do not care what happens to these children after that. They demand that the baby be born and them take away the social service system ,that supported these young mothers, as it was causing a Welfare Culture..
Yes , Legal or illegal Abortions will continue, and many good people will be forced into doing what is right , verses breaking a bad law.

Since I do like civil disobedience, I'd do what I could for women to get a safe abortion, if that's what the women had freely chosen to do.
Tons of things are illegal that people do every day, like in my state, many sexual practices that married couples do every day are still illegal, and are illegal in many states. The US is pretty fluid about what laws they choose to enforce.

Abortion should be okay for the life/health of the mother or for certain very severe conditions of the fetus such as anencephaly. I think that for rape it would also be reasonable, except with the use of the morning after pill when reporting the rape, that would almost never happen. The only time I would go against any law would be to save the life of the mother, but however, no one has ever debated the legality of saving the mother's life. So I guess I would say, no, I would not do it.
In any case, the vast, vast, VAST majority of abortions are performed due to irresponsible behaviors. Why should the kid pay for the parent's problems with her life? But, you know, I guess that is natural selection preventing the reproduction of people who are too stupid to use contraception.

First of all it is illegal as you set up in your premis.
Secondly safe abortion is a non sequitur. Abortion in any case always carries some risk for the mother and is always fatal to the child. What is safe about that?
Can anyone alive realy speak with authority on whether or not the unborn should live? They all were given a shot to make something of their lives. Denying life and taking life. The difference is to the ones comitting the act, I am sure it ammounts to the same thing to the party offended. Should we then change the terms murder and homicide to post-birth-abortion?

It would be like it used to be, there would be abortion houses that women were discreetly referred to with a business card if they were lucky with their doctor and part of their profits went to bribing the cops.

Apart from giving an opinion on this matter... the idea is not possible.
For someone to go to Medical School for that many years, just to do back-alley abortions where the individual doesn't have much money to begin with. I don't think it works like that.
It's the same as a person getting a Ph.D. in engineering, just to make illegal bombs.

I gave my (lengthy) opinion on this exact topic in response to an earlier question: "Pro-lifers, if abortion were to be made illegal...?"
Yes, I would support it, even if meant I was breaking the law and would risk going to jail.
EDIT: Thank you! Let's just hope we don't get caught...lol!

i have my limits as to what i could bring into a world, a baby that will suffer and die, no, so if that ever happens, i would rather abort.
