It depends on how much you need to take off, and which edge you need to plane. If you're not taking off much, and it's the outside or top edge, you may be able to use an orbital or belt sander to smooth off the excess.

Have to? No, but it is going to be worlds easier if you do so. To do a good job, you'll need to make sure that you have steady and even pressure on the plane. If the door is still hanging, you'll need someone to at least hold it still and hope that you can get good pressure as you go from kneeling to stretching.
Removing a door isn't any big deal. Put a Phillips screwdriver on the underside of the hinge pin and pop it with a hammer. Most door hinges are designed as such to allow this. If yours isn't, then you'll need to remove the hinge from the door itself. Enlist a helper and start from the bottom. You don't want to tear out any of the wood.

Check where the door sticks, mark with a pencil, if its the edge where the lock is and its in an area you can plane then try it keep checking your not taking too much off.
if it sticks on the top edge you may also be able to plane down.

Close the door to where it sticks and run a pencil down the side, open the door and just plane that bit, or use a rasp. It's easier to plane with the door off, but awkward to check. Good luck.

You would only need to remove the door if you had to plane the bottom of the door. Determine where the door sticks, and start there. Check frequently to see if you have removed enough wood to ease the fit.

I always remove the door slab to do any work to it, keeps the mess outside. Very easy to remove the hinge pins on a typical door, I use a nail set underneath the hinge pin and just tap it up with a hammer to start, then use a flat blade screwdirver to remove it the rest of the way.

Although is possible to do in situ unless is the bottom of the door, for safety reasons it's better to take the door of it's hinges and do it in a safe position, planes are very sharp and very dangerous.

if you don't, you won't be able to plane the edge closest to the floor.
if that part of the door doesn't need shooting in, then yes.
plane it whilst still in place, its a lot easier...
