The reason for this question, is a couple of years ago my husband and I went on vacation and my mother watched our kids while we were gone. She stayed at our house b/c of this she needed a key to our house. I've never been able to get it back. I recently tried getting back (this past weekend) to no avail. Any advice on how to get it back is greatly appreciated. :)

Yes. You should give someone you trust a key to your home. In the event something happens to you and you are incapacitated or dead, they can get it and take care of things.

Also, if they come from any distance over an hour to visit, they should have a key in case they get their before you finish work so they don't have to run to a gas station to pee. Older ya get, the less you can hold it. And also to be able to relax.

Are you kidding me? No way! ha ha We don't give our house keys to anyone unless we are on vacation...it's a privacy thing.

If you're worried about snooping, change your locks...

Nope. Why should they. Did they give you a key to their house when you were young.

Oh yes, and vice versa. I even have a key to my former daughter-in-law's home (she wants me to have it).
