Why do human's eyes appear to be sunken after a long illness??

cow's cornea has 7 or 8 layers and human has 3-5 layers. Why do cows need extra layers of protection?

Human's have hands and quicker reflexes to protect their eyes.

Could be that the normal fat reserves have been used up, even the ones around the face and eyes.

Cows have no appendages to push back branches. When they move through tall grass or brush, they push forward with their head. So the eyes need to be tougher.

Sunken eyes come from dehydration and loss of body fat, affecting the tissues behind the eyes in the eye sockets.
