x's are the defensive team ( the one without the ball ) and the o's are offensive players ( the one with the ball ) and they are used to diagram plays on a chalk board or on paper. on the offensive team the only player to not be an o is the center and they give him a square with an x in it.

X's stand for one team...O's are for the other...seriously.

Defense are the X players. Offense are the O players. The center, however, is a square.
