My wife needs help hemming her dress pants. She wears them with heels and flats, and we cant agree on a length. When she wears them with open-back shows they tend to get under her feet. What is a good general length? I have heard with heels they should be to where the heel meets the sole. But that would make them too long for flats, right? HELP!

Pants should touch the back of the shoe where the sole and heel meet. Any longer, and she won't be able to wear them with flats.

yes, the pant bottom should meet the heel as you say if you're wearing flats, but for higher heels with an open heel they should be comfortable enough to be above the heel and that seems to be a matter of choice. have her stand up and sit down with the pant cuff pinned up at different lengths until it's comfortable for her. Pants are at so many different lengths these days that no matter what length she chooses she will still be in style.
