There's no point in mentioning the noose, as it wasn't related to the beating (1). You're definately right though about them being in the news in the future for more crimes. Not counting this incident, Bell's been convicted of 4 other violent crimes (2) and he isn't even 18 yet. He'll probably end up killing someone eventually.
As usual, I see the supporters of these criminals are here with their lies and spin.
That's right, Qwerty, they did attack him for no reason. He was just walking in the hall with his girlfriend and they attacked him from behind (3, 4). As (4) shows, he tried to avoid the group of blacks when he saw them, and thus attempted to avoid conflict.
hamoh10, Adara, there's no evidence to support the claim that a bottle/bottles was/were used in that other fight. (5). And the only reason that fight even happened was because the blacks were attempting to crash a party to which they were no invited and refused to leave. (5). You talk about a gun...there was 1 gun, not "guns", and it was pulled in self defense because the blacks were acting menacingly (5, 6).
Adara, the nooses, which were unrelated to the attack (1), and were not criminal. There were no statutes on the books to prosecute the people who hung them (3).

I watched Dr. Phil last week and I think he had a reverend on there who said it is about racism, because recently(during this recent event, or before the event I don't remember), a couple of white dudes knocked down his church post- on purpose. The bottom line is this: what are these parents parents teaching the children, why would the white folks hang nooses on a tree for God's sakes! Who taught them about that. the significance of the noose, hurt far worse than a beating.
The dudes who beat up the white boy were wrong and deserves to be punished, I agree 100%; but remember, this is a 'white' town. so the black kid who didn't hit the boy gets eleven months in jail, with an all white jury and he is still there currently,Tthats what the hoopla is all about. Some people say" oh, it was about thugs beating on a white guy.:" if you are going to tell the story, tell the whole thing and don't leave out any facts.

I for one am soooo sick of all this black/white thing. The blacks are just as bad. Everytime time they do something wrong and get caught-the cry racism. They call in the big guns and all you hear is "us poor black folks. I wasn't there so I don't know what happened. But I have read articles on it and I haven't read anything about a first beating before the nooses were hung. But the blacks cry "they started it". If your stupid enough and think your brave enough to beat the crap out anybody, white or black, then you should be able to pay the price. Doing something like this is wrong and just because you are a certain color doesn't give you the right to do it and expect your color to get you off.

It's simple they beat a boy and the higher charges were dropped and now they should go through the normal stages and the ones with priors will go to jail till they are 18 with and if they mess up while in there they will stay till they are 21 at least this is how it works for white people who have priors and send someone to the hospital.
But I'm sure they are more special then that since people want them to walk.
Ropes and word are worth more then a honky white person, right.
I don't think so but some do.
If another kid was beat up then he to should have pressed charges.
By the way he didn't call them names he simply made a remark about the other fight and then later these kids were waiting for him.
Cowards at 6 to 1.

You know those six kids should be in jail no matter what. The truth is those kids jumped a kid. What if it was just like someone else said six white kids beating up a black kid. Would all of this be going on.
That Micheal kid still committed a crime and should go to JAIL no matter what.
The kids that hung the nooses should go to jail to for commiting a hate crime.
All of those kids commited a crime so they should all get equal punishment.
And for that MIcheal kid he should stay in Jail. That kid is bad news.
Now you see I am african american and i am saying this because I've been watching the news and all of this about huge protests and I think what about the kid that got jumped. I think once I saw an interview with the jumped kids sister...but I wasnt listening to much.
But this is getting way to out of hand. Im sorry for my rant but I just had to say what I was thinking to someone.

I don't agree that the noose was no big deal. Honestly, if I was black, I would see that as threatening as well as very offensive. Something should have been done to stop that. HOWEVER.....to quote a famous radio personality, you have no right not to be offended. Because someone did something stupid and racist does NOT give these people the right to beat the crap out of this kid who didn't hang the nooses in the first place. I agree that attempted murder was too much, considering the kid was out of the hospital in a couple of hours. But aggravated assault? When it's six against one? Yes, that is absolutely reasonable, and not at all racist.
If the nooses were hung on school property (and I have no idea whether they were) then the school should impose a harsh punishment on those who did it. But unfortunately, there is no law in Louisiana against hanging nooses in trees. The DA's hands are tied. There is, however, a law against ganging up on someone so they don't stand a chance of defending themselves.

First off, The Noose was hung b/c the white kids knew it would make the black kids mad. How did they know? Because back in the old days white people used to hang black people. Everyone KNOWS that. No, I'm not saying jumping that kid was the right thing but he knew what he did was wrong so why is he trying to fight it. Also, the same day he got out of the hospital(which he didn't stay in very long) he went to a party. So obviously he wasn't hurt very bad if he could go out and party. Like I said violence was not the answer but racism is also not the answer. Treat everyone fair this is 2007 not 1957.

There is NO argument from either side, white or black, as to whether or not the 6 boys involved in the altercation should be punished for their actions. They should and will be. The problem is the punishment itself. There have been many schoolyard fights, brawls, jumpings .. whatever you want to call them. It has happened before, it will happen again. Soo many of these are unprovoked. This incident in was in no way unprovoked nor was it unwarranted. Aside from the fact that it could have been merely a retaliatory incident based on the fact that an African American male had been beaten up prior to this event, what do you do when you feel threatened? Living in a predominantly white area in the south is threatening enough and if you don't believe that, then you are not in tune with what is really going on in society. No question, these boys need to be punished .. but it is the skewed mindsets of people like so many of those who posted answers to this question, with remarks like, "these wannabe thuggers" or casting guarantees of future imprisonment for other crimes, that make cases like this exist in the first place. This country is built upon a foundation of greed, deceit, and oppression. Until we can figure out that we are in the same boat together (primarily by class : lower class, middle class, and upper echelon), we are destined to rival over matters that should only be footnotes on a beautiful existence. Please, read and inform yourselves before making harsh and judgemental statements. We are cycling the negativity, and without it this would be a simple open and shut, schoolyard brawl case.

Exactly what I've been thinking. There IS no equality in the world. If there was, we'd be seeing peace in Burma, peace in Afghanistan, peace everywhere, and no more poverty. Sadly, this is not the case.
Noose:
The noose was either very racially harmful or not harmful at all, depending on what you believe. On one report, it tells you that there were three nooses, a signal for the Ku Klux Klan. On another report, it says there were two, not relevant in anything.
Why this does not fit:
If it were a well-known calling card for the KKK, why were blacks playing with it too?
Blacks complaining:
Me too, mate, me too.
Trial:
Throw a few black guys in there, they'll spend days deliberating. Throw black guys in there and replace the white guys, they'll spend 15 minutes and do a not-guilty verdict, and vice versa with the whites.
Conclusion:
There is absolutely no way a fair-trial can be done. So let's all forget about it now.
Btw, I hate blacks protesting, do you see we Chinese protesting?
Wait, we do. Ugh.

lol.
1. Everyone has different opinions on what really happened
2. I've put this answer in every "Jena 6" question I've read: If this were to happened OUTSIDE OF THE SOUTH things would have been handled correctly from the start. I don't even think this would have gotten to the police/court/tv if this happened in so.cal. They would have gotten kicked out for hanging the nooses or for whatever happened before the hanging of the nooses.
3. The south lacks diversity, so it is so easy to jump to racist remarks & pulling the race card. All there is, is whites & blacks in Jena. your not going to find a asian, indian, latino, etc in that small town, yeah right!!!
4. Point blank, the way this whole thing was handled was clearly twisted.

1. NO Jena WHITE kids beat up ANY blacks between the noose "hanging" incident and the "Jena 6" beating. Free (from incarceration) Americans are expected to act civil--even in the face of verbally stated negative comments.
2. Racial taunts prior to beating: Doesn't matter. Refer back to item #1.
3. Those nooses: "Hung" about 7 seconds--witnessed by Jena High School faculty--and was promptly removed. The ones who did it were caught in the act and suspended.
Hate crime? Were there any WRITTEN signs noting who the nooses were for? NO...there werent, were they? No proof they were "hung" in the tree for ANY race people. Hanging nooses in trees is NOT a hate crime. Putting someone(s) necks in hangman nooses--based on skin color--IS a hate crime. Be wise to bear this in mind.
4. The infamous "N-word": BLACKS are OK with it spoken by BLACKS; insulting if spoken to them by WHITES. See...that's a problem.....and a double-standard. Makes it hard to convince the intellegent BLACKS are VICTIMS of racism.
5. "Jena 6" are innocent of a crime till proven guilty. Doubts exist a fair court hearing given them will find ANY innocence in their savage act. They'll face justice---and it won't be pretty.
After all...ghosts didn't beat--and nearly kill--the WHITE VICTIM, now did they?
Grow up and face REAL facts: BLACKS are just as--if not more--racist than whites.
