Yeah I saw the final episode...The reason what kept me watching the series, is because I read in wiki, that the anime was known for its "violent" ending scenes. It does not seem like that kind of anime, so that's what makes the ending so shocking.
To talk about the ending, yeah it was gruesome and weird. Kotonoha having Makoto's head in the bag? Sick. But I liked the fact that Makoto realized his mistakes and he chose Kotonoha. Also at the end scene of episode 11, how Makoto was crying and wondering why she still wants him, was really heartbreaking. Plus I like how Kotohona, despite all that Makoto did, still forgave him at the last episode, but kissing him in front of Sekai was just plain evil.
The series overall is not that great. Makoto is just a horny bastard. And i don't think Sekai is at fault...seducing him and all. Or course Makoto has a choice, and evidently, he chose wrong. The first episode was great, and I thought I was in for a real love triangle story...but instead I got a cheap idiot who gets all the girls (was he the only guy in the school besides his friend?). I mean, Kotonoha deserves a better man and there is better guys out there. I know its just an anime, and they're trying to prove a point. Just hopefully, and God willingly, that a girl like Kotonoha in the real world, does not go for a guy like Makoto.
Add: Since you like the series, you may enjoy the prequel of the anime, Summer Days, since it's a different universe. I'm not sure when the anime will be released in Japan.

I really liked the ending, but I can't wait for the DVD release. Uncensored version ftw! The blood will actually be red, and we will get to see more of the stabbings.
I really felt sorry for Sekai and didn't think she deserved to die. Some of you may blame her, but all she did was really like Matoko and take advantage of their situation by kissing him, but it was Matoko who lost interest in Kotonoha, and pretty much forced himself on Sekai while quieting her concerns about Kotonoha. How can you put too much blame on her?
But seriously... wtf happened to Matoko? He went from being the nicest guy ever, a person who had his day brightened by just watching Kotonoha on a train, then he plummeted into the scum of humanity. He sleeps with practically every girl who has a name, and he ignores them when they can't just have sex anymore. Argggg...

There's a lot in Makoto's past that isn't discussed in the anime. His father was a real piece of work and if might have affected Makoto. That isn't an excuse for his behavior, just a possible explanation. There's also many other things from the game that weren't included in the anime. Overall, Makoto will probably go down as one of the most loathed anime characters in recent memory.

No. I didn't like it. It was good but it didn't meet my expectations. I believe they could have done so much more to make this ending gory, dramatic, creepy, and psychotic overall. They were probaly rushing when they did this ending. As for Summer Days, it does not have an anime yet to the poster way above. It is only a game still.
