Of course it means what it says. Those who want to revoke the right to bear arms are looking for a quick fix to a complicated problem. They aren't considering the real reason why the Founders gave us the right to bear arms. They gave us that right, because they had a real understanding of the threat that a government can be to the individual freedoms of it's citizens. They gave us the right to bear arms to protect ourselves from an abusive government. Not to protect ourselves from each other.

I don't think it says what the gun lobby says it says. The "Right to bear arms" is not a right at all. It is a section of a more complex sentence taken out of context. If people would bother to READ the document its intent will be plainly shown. The Constitution in this sense is much like the Bible. People for the most part pick and choose what parts they believe. Others just blindly believe and ignore the discrepancies and contradictions. The best thing about the Constitution, is it hasn't been written a thousand times over multiple centuries and badly translated through an evolution of thousands of languages.
The second amendment is not complete unless the entire sentence is said as one idea. The authors intended it to mean that Americans could have a regulated defensive force. Not that everyone could carry a weapon.

The Constitution was written with an arms bearing provision in order to prevent a situation similar to the British occupation. Our country was founded by arms-bearing citizens that rebelled against tyrrany. Citizens bearing arms genuinely protect a nation. Other examples:
1. The Netherlands were neutral in World War 2, and had strict gun control laws. Hitler conquered and pillaged the country in four days. Citizens had no way to fight back.
2. In The Sudan (Dharfur), the Muslims that are slaughtering the African Christians are armed, while the African victims cannot defend themselves.
3. Have you ever seen the movie Red Dawn?

I like guns, and think gun control is a joke. There are over 20,000 laws on the books regarding gun control already, if we would just enforce some of those, we wouldn't need anymore.
Also, the police, which we pay for entirely with our taxes, have No Duty to Protect Individuals. That means they can watch you being beaten and raped, and not have to do anything, because according the the courts, their duty is to "the public at large." It isn't fair that I can't have a gun to protect myself when I can't depend on the police.

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." I think it means exactly what it says. And for everyone that thinks guns should be banned, look up Kennessaw, GA, and read about what they did in the late 80's. Show me an example where the banning guns works as well, and I'll rethink my position.

The Constitution means precisely what it says. No more, and no less, and there's no need to "interpret" it, nor do you need special knowledge about what a "militia" is or was. You don't need to turn it over and look at it through special glasses to find the hidden map on the back. A twelve year old could figure it out.

I think the only gun control should be that irresponsible people (Crimally convicted or Mentally unstable) shouldn't be able to have any guns.
Everyone else has the right to have any gun they want provided they are responsible membes of society.

Gun laws and banning guns won't stop criminals. They don't purchase or own weapons legally anyway. Gun bans only hurt honest citizens. How about banning sharp knives, since my son was murdered with one?

Yes, Let it stand and be proud of it. It is how this great nation was formed. Guns are your friends. It's the people who use them for evil that you should be concerned about.

Individuals have rights, States have powers. Since the 2nd amendment is part of the Bill of Rights, no further clarification is needed.
