Do you believe in spanking as punishment??

We got whatever was handiest, which was usually a swat or kick in the a$s. None of us turned out to be criminals or disrespectful idiots or bums. We are all well-adjusted, gainfully employed, law-abiding, contributing members of society who are appreciative of our parents and what we have.

I don't necessarily believe in spanking, but I do believe that there must be consistent and enforceable consequences to bad behaviour for kids and that parents should be allowed to parent. Right now there are no effective consequences and this is destroying our society.

The belt and the wooden spoon... lol at least those were always the threats that were made. I do believe in spanking as a punishment. Is sad that it is frowned upon now because of a few dumb people.

I got the belt, the wooden spoon, the plastic brush and the backhand across the face for starters....and I believe that whatever punishment is used for a child it needs to be consistent and used every time, no backing down and open lines of communication...

I didn't really get spankings but I think that we have regressed in the area of child discipline. I'm an advocate of bringing back the days when children respected their elders. So if that means the child has to go out and pick his own switch, so be it!! Nowadays, kids run the show because they know how to cry abuse even when it's not true. Time Out does not work for every child.

As I child, when I saw mom take out the yardstick, I knew I was in trouble.I vowed that wouldn't happen if I had kids. Now, I have 3 of my own, 2 teen girls and a son in 1st grade, Every now and then the younger one will get a tap on the backside (after every thing else fails, counting, time out, etc) but overall, no "spanking"....Loss of privileges or grounding works the best around here..

I got the belt. I have only spanked my kids a couple of times, and that really was no more than a swat. I go with time outs more, but really they listen pretty well.

I got anything that was close to hand, but mostly the hand across the face. Mom would have drawn a six shooter faster than the best of the best.

Spanking can be effective, but only the hand to the clothed bottom and only sparingly. Sure is frowned on today, though. Too many spoiled kids.

My brother and I got the wooden spoon from Mom and the belt from Dad. We were a couple of little hellions, though...

Oh no, no time out for me. My mom busted me with the belt, fly swatter, hair brush....whatever was closest. Sometimes spanking is needed. I think most kids today should have been spanked more when they were little.
