Sounds vaguely familiar. There were a lot of people who wanted to crown George Washington.

No. He was in England when the "Stamp Act" was put into law by the King. He protested to the British Government but he advised the Colonists to obey the law. This made some Colonists believe he was on the side of the Crown. Have a look at this link. Very informative.
