The light that shows the gas display and something else near there on my truck just went out. What can I do to get this fixed? What's the problem other than the obvious?

You will need to remove the trim around the gages.
It might take a bit of fiddling, but look for screws on the instrument panel before just pulling on it. There may be a hook at one end and a push-in fastener at the other, so be creative when trying to remove the trim. Don't just assume it takes more force... there may be a screw, or it may open in the other direction...

Many Instrument Panels have a circuit board like film where the lights engage the power trace via a 1/4 turn socket. For this type, you'll have to bring the gages out at least a little.

The two most likely causes are burned out bulb and bad connection to the circuit trace or socket - maybe the bulb socket wiggled loose. Either way you have to get to the back of the gages... and the most likely path is right from the front.

One of the dash lights burned out. This can be an easy fix or it can be a real pain in the rear depending on how hard it is to access the light bulb.

Replace the light bulb.

Look behind the dash, and you may be able to spot the bulb that burned out - remove it, take it to an auto parts place, and get a replacement.
