Go with your gut. Most of those places are ripoffs.
Jiffy Lube was the subject of an investigative report in L.A. by a local news affiliate. They found that Jiffy Lube typically recommended replacing several items and the news team gave them permission. Jiffy Lube didn't know they were being investigated and didn't know of the hidden cameras under the car. Most "repairs" were not done, but they were said to be done. One of the most common was a transmission flush and fill. I believe they did about 6 or 7 locations. I'll try to find the video link from the report and edit this answer.

Jiffy Lube is just what it sounds like. A fast service lubrication business. Professional mechanics work in Dealerships and quality repair shops. A Jiffy Lube employee might not be the right one to ask about serious mechanical work.

You know a car is a big expense--maintaining it is a must--your owners manual says when certain work MUST be done--without doing it you just wear parts out really quickly. Yes all the shops try to get the sale--but they are right--at your mileage you need to do what you probably NEVER did before. I would get this all done at the dealer because they have all new correct stuff and know what they are doing---you can't hurry a job like this--give the car to the dealer and get everything done properly. You will need a tune-up soon so get that done all at the same time. You will get another 100 thousand out of a well cared for car. Of course it will cost a little--but that is what comes with owning a car--it is cheaper than towing the car in and replacing some stuff you should have cared for and it would have been OK.

Jiffy Lube has done millions of cars every day...you might say that they do no a little bit about cars, but they make money on selling...
Most good garages will give you free estimates on you vehical, so it would be best to go to a couple of different places before you make up your mind...

id trust the mechanic he told you right probably, jiffy lube is good for oil changes, but they do not have licensed mechanics that know how to repair vehicles,if they did they wouldn't be working at jiffy lube, there ok for oil changes but limit it to that with them,if you need work done on it always take it to a good mechanic, good luck with it.

You have simply exposed the Jiffy Lube business model.
The surprise part is they probably didn't even change your oil.
For the rest of your life, you need to remember that retail businesses, national or worldwide chains, can be completely dishonest and engaged in fraud every day, and they get by just fine. Everybody knows how they operate. It's really quite amazing.
Listen to James D. - He told you the truth.

I work for Jiffy Lube in MONTEREY CA. What I do know is that the repairs or changes that we recommend to you come directly from our computers. We tell you based on mileage what the factory recommends for maintenance. What we tell you is not to have you purchase more services but what a lot of people do not know about there cars. i.e. Oil change every 3000 miles.

What kind of establishment goes by the name of Jiffy Lube?
One that caters to people who are cheap, belligerent and whiny. Consider yourself lucky that you went to a professional.

How much per hour do the Jiffy Lube "mechanics" make? $7.00/hour? If they knew their butt from a hole in the ground do you think they would actually be working there?

The more that they sell, the more money that they make. Each shop is a franchise so there can be a lot of difference in the quality of the work that you receive.
If they tell you that you need work, get a second opinion before you have the work done.
