You may be thinking of Isadora Duncan, a professional dancer who died in 1927.While riding in a new Bugatti her long scarf which was her fashion signature, got caught around a wheel. She was quickly strangled to death, and almost decapitated.To this day, her memory is revered, and Ms. Duncan is called the "mother" of modern dance.
