Fatty acids are long chain organic acids. They are liquid when relatively short, up to about 14 carbons in length. Above that, they are ususally solid at room temperature. For example, the C16 (called cetyl) is used in hair coonditioners and is semi solid. C18 (stearic acid) is fully solid and is used in waxes.
