The drivers in F1 are stuck-up, snobby pieces of sh!t. If they were the best drivers in the world, wouldn't montoilet be winning every nascar race? The racing sucks, you bump someone and your car falls apart. They look like big go karts and sound like a weed whacker. If you took off the traction control, the drivers would be spinning out all over the place. Real drivers don't need all the technology, they can drive the car without the help of a computer.

Formula 1 has been around almost as long as NASCAR. The first F1 World Championship-let me repeat that, WORLD Championship-season was held in 1950. F1 reaches an audience every fortnight that equals World Cup Soccer. Does NASCAR? Formula 1 has had many famous marques such as Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lotus, Cooper, Jaguar to name just a few. Legendary teams such as McLaren, Ferrari, Williams, and Brabham. F1 has raced in 26 countries. Argentina. Australia. Austria. Bahrain. Belgium. Brazil. Canada. China. France. Germany. Great Britain. Hungary. Italy. Japan. Malaysia. Mexico. Monaco. Morrocco. The Netherlands. Portugal. South Africa. Spain. Sweden. Switzerland. Turkey. And, yes, the USA. Plus more to come. Can NASCAR say that? I do acknowledge that NASCAR is trying to gain a foothold outside of the U.S.-holding races in Canada and Mexico and previously staging an exhibition on the Suzuka Circuit in Japan-plus other groundwork being laid, but it is going to be imo very hard to change habits, especially with this type of racing being different that what race fans in those countries are used to.
As for technology, in the esteemed words of tennis legend John McEnroe; "You Cannot Be Serious!". I will acknowledge that F1 is an acquired taste-very little to any actual overtaking-Americans pass, Europeans overtake-too much blocking, too much emphasis on technology. However, the FACTS are that F1 is one of the most popular sports in THE WORLD. NASCAR is more popular in America-for some strange reason I don't get-but it will NEVER attain the popularity of F1 worldwide, regardless of how many has-been F1 drivers race in the series.
Bottom line, NASCAR is an American series and is popular here. F1 is a World Championship series. Which would you rather be, champion of a national series or King of the World?

You sure do attract a lot of haters, don't you?
Formula 1 actually the most popular motorsport in the world, with over 300 million fans. People love the politics, and all the infighting in the teams, and they love to watch very expensive racing machines parade in single file around various road courses around the world. They also love to hear senile old idiots like Bernie Echelstone dis America and Americans.
The races in F1 are fixed, but they don't really race anyway, it all comes down to fuel load and when you pit.
Still, I enjoy both NASCAR and Formula 1, but I don't think that NASCAR will ever reach the popularity of Formula 1, because the opinions of the haters on this question is pretty much indicative of Formula 1 fans everywhere.

The technology in F1 is far and away better than NASCAR. The drivers are generally more talented. However, it has been a long time since a US driver has had any success at all in F1 and the only current US driver just lost his ride (though unjustly).
F1 is more successful outside of the US. People in the US find NASCAR more exciting due to the large scale wrecks and closer racing due to dozens of caution flags and a higher number of cars on a smaller track. They also relate to the drivers better, though many of them are as arrogant as the F1 drivers.
The fact is that people in the US are fans of things American. NASCAR is American. F1 isn't. Every Cup race is held in the US. There isn't a race scheduled for F1 in the US since they cancelled the race at Indy. It's pretty much the same reason we prefer football over soccer.

NASCAR is successful only in the US. Its like asking why isn't Soccer as successfull as American Football?
Talent wise, look at the drivers who moved from F1 to other series, like the Lemans, DTM, CART, Indy, Sportscar racing.... have been successful. Phil Hill, Emerson Fittipaldi, Nigel Mansell, Jacky Ickx, Jochen Mass, Henri Pescarolo, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Derek Bell, Stefan Johansson, JJ Lehto.....
Designers.... Gordon Murray designed the Mclaren F1 supercar, he was a designer in Formula 1 for Brabham and Mclaren.
But try to know the F1 car, I think you could end up appreciating it a bit more.
F1:
2.4L V8 750 bhp
605 kg including driver and fluids
NASCAR 5.9L 850 bhp
1545 kg with driver

Didn´t you hear the news? F1 just got more popular than nascar, tenfold. You can´t be serious talking about technology in nascar, c´mon, you know it´a massive overstatement.

some people like NASCAR and some people like F1, some enjoy both, to each their own, its not a competition of which is better or more popular, they're both amazing and the drivers in both series are extremely talented

to be as successful as nascar it would have to loose roughly 862 million viewers, to match the technology they would have to use the cars from the 1960s and put fenders on them, it really wouldn't take much at all
