ok well i get like 70 pts of extra credit if i find an ansewer to this so here i go...what would 2 liquids do if they have the same density but arnt soluable..........which one would go on top of each other or what i need to know

ok this is just a hypothetical question tht i asked my teacher during class...and he didnt have an answer ot give me soo he told me if i could find out then i could get extra credit

This may not be the answer but here goes:

I would Imagine that the two liquids would form an emulsion, (which is two liquids that are mixed but are not soluble in each other). However since both liquids have the same density they would not separate into different layers over a period of time and will most likely stay mixed. The overall mixture would appear as tiny droplets of each liquid all mixed around. Given enough time the liquids may form larger conglomerates of each other but neither one will be "on-top" or "on-bottom".

You know that oil and water don't mix. But water has a high density. So it is unlikely that you would find an oily substance with a density close to water.

Rather, look for a (polar) water type substance that has a density similar to an oil. I would guess that ethanol, methanol, or something similar might be very close to the density of some oils and solve your interesting question.

I'm not sure which would float on top. I would guess that the polar liquid would float on top due to capillary attraction with the container (if glass).

Density is one of the property used to identify a given substance so how come that your two liquids will have the same density. It will not happen. Two liquids may have the same density but not on the same temperature because we know that density varies with temperature.
