Have I ever and the catalog & corn cobs where in there as well. In the summer we had an outhouse for summer usage made of gunny sacks. I called them tow sacks back then. Used to sit there and wrinkle that catalog paper to get it soft. I don't remember us complaining about it. That is what we had and that was that.
Looking back, I could easily cry at hard my Mother had to work & what she had to do it with. It is sad to think about. We moved to the city when I was 9 and left that in the past. Another reason to be thankful. That was in the 30's~~~~~~

Yes. An old place my dad bought years ago had an outhouse on it. We used it sometimes when the bathroom was out of order.

also, I use portalets (or Porta-Johns) every day at work, 'cause I do construction. They are basically just modern outhouses.

Actually, yes.
When I was younger, my uncle and aunt did not have indoor plumbing. Mind you, this was in the early 1970's. I thought it was a trip!!! I loved to go there just so I could use the outhouse and then go to school the next day and tell all my friends.

Sure have!!! We lived in a one room house boat when I was about 7 and the only restroom was an outhouse up a hill!!Not fun when you need it in the middle of the night!

My grandma's house had an outhouse and when i was a youngster we visited a lot, they raised rabitts for meat. My aunt and uncle have one in arkansas because my uncle has over 1/2 million dollars and was too cheap to put in a toilet or running water.

Yes I have. Both porta-potties and more permanent ones like at the beach. Some have been nice and clean others not so.

My mom grew up (in the 30's) using one. There was a man who came by to empty it. He would put a new bucket in and take the old one. He was called the scavenger man. What an occupation! Guess someone had to do it though.

Sure have. My grandparents didn't have indoor plumbing/water until I was 12. My aunts and uncles finally installed it for my grandmother when they got worried about her going outside to haul her water in and walking to the outhouse in the winter.

Ugh, yes. Every time my boyfriend and I go fishing at the beach. I absolutely hate them! It is the only thing that makes me dread going. I do take wet ones with me since I can't wash my hands and I hold my breath the whole time! The last time we went I didn't go. We were there for a good 5 hours. It was worth waiting to go to a real bathroom.
