The dem's in the 1880's were very big in the KKK and the congressional record of the 1880's recorded that. Also Wallbuilders/David Barton in his black history publications goes in to detail about Democrat-KKK pro-slavery connections. Which is very extensive about this.

I also remember that they were the party that lynched people and burned churches down. Turned dogs and water hoses on marchers. And opposed the civil rights and voting rights act.
