I highly doubt it. The elder Bush was the one with all of the political connections. Bush Jr. utilized those connections to get his political career off the ground. Plus, the name recognition Bush had leading up to his run for governor couldn't have hurt him.

As a Texan who voted for him I'd have to say I never thought of his dad...I voted for him 3 times. I like his policies, except for immigration.
