First cousin marriage is only legal in something like 21 states.... the chance of genetic defects resulting from such a marriage is very similar to the population at large. The only real genetic argument is the possibility of allowing recessive genes to manifest themselves, but a number of studies have found very little difference between the occurence with cousins and unrelated people.

You could go on the Jerry Springer show.
Yes your kids could have disorders and disablilites with the bloodlines being so close together. I think your family would be disappointed. How would you feel if you had a child that wanted to marry there cousin?

Do more research on this. Especially in eastern countries such as India, people do marry their cousins. Although it matters how it is your cousin. Usually its between lets say your mom's brothers son or your dads sister son. Meaning that is the trick to genetics. It wont be the same genes anymore because you are moving between different genders of your parents.
However, it is not normal to marry your mom's sisters son or you dads brothers son. Not sure why, but this would fall into whats called incest, atleast according to eastern countries such as India.
So do your homework. Also another thing to think about is culture gap. You are living in USA and not India. While this might seem normal in India, in USA, it could be considered incest. Besides, what does your cousin think about this idea? It could turn out to be ugly. Not to mention what your parents would think and his parent woulds think and other relatives in the family would think. There is a lot to consider. Do your homework. :) Good luck.

The risk of some genetic defect in first cousin marriages increases from 4 percent to 6 percent from individuals that are not related. Because of similar blood chemistry there is evidence that are fewer miscarriages with first cousin marriages. There is no increase of genetic defects with second cousin marriages.

Your blood cousin?
Or cousin by marriage?
Because if it's the first one, they'll come out all sick and funny looking, like those inbred Mormon kids from Colorado City!!

Your children could have extra toes and/or below-average intelligence. It's illegal to marry your cousin for good reason.
European royalty did it for thousands of years. Have you looked closely at Prince Charles??? INBRED.

How old are you both? How close are your families and do you know the repercussions that will come from both of your families? What about your religion, if you're both religious? How do you live your life and how will you explain things to your offsprings?
