The Greek Pantheon is full of Gods and Goddesses with a lot of human traits, with all the pros and cons of humans -fall in love, hate, envy, greed, took revenge, feel pain, and even seduce humans- the only difference was the divine power they possessed, and they use them to their own advantage or to reward humans.
In a personal opinion -don't want to mess with religion in case someone still adore them- the ancient Greeks molded the Gods as a reflection of the human beings.

If you take the powers away, the Greek gods were all human. They loved and cheated, they hated and plotted to revenge, they had big ego's and were very easy to get upset. Each one of them had a certain character like humans with different ideas about what is right or wrong and they each had different reactions.
When you lived at that time and you would for example lose your child from an illness , it was more easy to explain it by saying that "Hera was jealous of my happiness and killed my child " than not have any reason at all. An all merciful god would not allow that.

If you take a moderately intelligent human. Pack in all the Magick and and paranormal talents anyone has ever thought of....then add a huge ego and intense emotions, you have a great God or Goddess of the Greek Pantheon.

The greek gods had so many human traits so the people could relate to them. Though greek religion seemed to be more of a divine protection racket than anything else. 'here's a cow, please leave us alone'.

well, i think it's kind of odd...

the greeks gave their gods characteristics that are VERY human-like, like how they can get thier feelings hurt, you have to prove your affection to them, and if you upset them they get mad.

why would they create these gods that didnt except them unless the gods liked the human, when in christianity, god loves you no matter what.
