About 3 months ago I had a lot of this brown discharge on my underwear...normally I only have the normal kind, the sort of yellow/white one, but I'm not sure if it's really my period. It happened on the first on June, but then skipped July, and then I got it again in August the 1st to the 4th, and this month also from the 1st to the 4th. Is this my period, and if so, is that my pattern? I'm expecting my next period on the first week of October.

Also, my flow is really, really light...which makes me wonder if this is my period. I just use one of those thin pads with no wings since the flow is really light, it's a little more than my usual discharge amount. Any answers?

Sounds like it's starting - it won't always be light like that, but when you first start out, your body often takes some time to get into full gear of regular menstruation - within about a year or a so, you should be in a regular pattern, but don't expect anything these first few months to be written in stone for the rest of your life!

It's probably a good idea to have full sized pads handy if you need one one of these months, but for now, use what's adequate and comfortable!

(And it's totally normal to have discharge once you start puberty. As long as it's strongly unpleasant smelling and doesn't itch or burn, it's nothing to be concerned about at all.)

This is probably your period. It is not the same for everyone, we are all different. Your body is just getting started with menstruation and you will become regular soon. Your flow could begin light, as it is now, and become heavier as the months and years go by. You will develop your own pattern, and it will be yours alone....don't compare it with others'.

Have you talked with your mom or another trusted adult? I wouldn't worry...sounds like you are just growing up. You are becoming a woman. Welcome to the club!

This is normal my daughter started out the same way now she is flowing fine. You will have the dark ugly gooey stuff then your normal flow will eventually come. Hope this helps.

First of all, you shouldn't have discharge at all!! I think you need to talk to your mom or another female adult. Explain to them just like you did here. Good luck!!
