sure, it is a good Idea! you can even let the next rain wet the mortar (as long as it is not a gully washer that washes it away.

ok , you need to mix up , some sand / and some mortar
dry mixed, install it into the joints, with a brush ,
then hose down the path , take care not to wash out the dry mortar, it will go hard, in about 24 hours

my yard is 100% brick, old brick with alot of cracks. I bought a bag of cement (or concrete) the bag without rocks and filled the cracks with the dry stuff and then wet it down. Worked good for me.
