i work in the electricians union in las vegas, we work from 3AM-2PM 11 hour days, 6-7 days a week, and its VERY physically demanding heavy lifting and all that , my feet and hands are in pain every day and im only 18, not to mention las vegas's 100+ heat, every day im miserable and hate my life, but the money is pretty good, do you think it would be worth it to quit? i was thinkin bout goin back to school, to study in culinary arts, but the cooks union around here isnt as much money, or i would take some business classes to and maybe open up my own shop, but i think i would enjoy it more, but who knows, do you think its worth the risk for me to quit, to try out a profession for less money, but may or may not like more? is hating your job just a part of life? or should i strive for a job i love?

I would accept the job extension, and start actively looking for another job that you think you will enjoy more.. It will mean that you can be a bit more picky about what you apply for, and will have the time to hunt down a well paid job, attend interviews etc...whilst still having an income coming in. Life is too short to be miserable at work, and yet, with bills to pay, you have no choice to work, so may as well earn as much money as you can from the time you spend working.

In general I like my job. I don't get paid what I should and have to deal with stupid people that think they're smart...which are the worst. The best way to figure out what you should do is ask yourself what would solve this issue that is making you unhappy? If the answer changes the situation, but ultimately still leaves you unsatisfied it is not the right answer.

Just remember a job, career, work is going to suck sometimes. Just like you can love to listen to the radio, sometimes you flip stations and every song sucks. Same thing with work. Figure out what you can tolerate...that's what people who love their job do, they do something they are passionate for and learn how to "cope" or manage the parts that are not ideal. It is not the job that makes you love it, it's how you approach the job that makes you love it.

these are very good questions to ask at your age. sounds like you're just doing this job for the money.

my advice is for you to keep that job until you decide what you want to do next. if you want to go back to school and you can afford not to work, then do so. if you can't afford it, work part-time at your current job and go to school part-time pursuing the field you want.

it's much more fulfilling to do what you love. and when you love what you do, you excel at it. if you excel at what you do, the money will most definitely come. you just have to work on it first. you're only 18 - so if you act now, you may be doing what you love as early as your 20s.

good luck!

Stick to it for another 2 to 3 years, get enough money so that you have a sound base and then go off and do what you want to do.

You know why they call it "work", don't you?

People get paid the most for the jobs others *can't* do, and the jobs they don't *want* to do. Jobs that look like fun generally don't pay very much at all.

you're breaking my heart... you're only 18 man... hard work won't kill you.... keep working there, remain debt free, save up tons of money for several years... and look for better work if you want out.
