I don't think Tide really is the best. When I moved out on my own, I used it because it's what my mom used, and she said it was the best. But it got too expensive for me, so I started experimenting with other brands. As long as you get a reputable brand--i.e., not a super-cheap brand--you'll have pretty much the same results. All and Arm & Hammer are my favorites now, and they're waaaaaaaaay less expensive than Tide.

For more abrasive action (extra rubbing/scrubbing) by detergent is those with more chalk filler. These are also harsher on clothing & may need a more thorough rinse cycle.
Read labels on boxes, many products are made by same manufacturer & address and with same ingredients. Put different names & prices on product to receive more sales. This same method is practiced by other products: dish liquid, etc...

no detergent can be "the best"... do you think they even bother testing it against every single brand?
it is all a commercial trick to make you think it's worth more

Is it? Must be a matter of opinion or there would not be so many different brands.
