He has the 8+ feeding in a day and the number of wet and solid diapers they recomend so am I looking into it way to much?

He has gotten more efficent at nursing. :-)

You get a break before the next growth spurt, coming soon!

Your son is demonstrating all the signs of being completely healthy and well-nourished, from what you've said. ;)

From personal experience (nursing our three daughters for a total of 52 months, give or take LOL), I can attest to the vast differences between quality of latch, length of time required for a full feeding and the infant's preferences in general.

Our oldest daughter had trouble latching on, and barely breastfed at all for the first week or two. Once we'd both gotten the hang of it and nursing was well established, however, each session lasted between 20 minutes and a full hour! It was just her style.

Our youngest, on the other hand, had an excellent latch from the start and could gulp down an entire feeding in as little as five minutes, as you've mentioned. She turned out to be our best "eater" and chubbiest little babe. LOL Obviously she simply had a very efficient nursing style.

Rest assured, as long as the amount of soiled diapers and weight gained is on target, your son is doing just fine. Excellent, really, since he's obviously perfected his nursing technique already! ;) Just enjoy it.

it's so hard being a new mom and not knowing what's right or wrong! It sounds like he is fine. I remember when my son was that old, I would stress out about how much he was eating, but they are pretty smart and will let you know if they're still hungry. If you're still concerned, I'd offer him your breast a few more times during the day to see if he'll eat. Babies go through crazy growth spurts, so maybe he's fine right now. By the time your body catches up, he'll have another spurt and you'll be nursing him all day!

As long as he is not losing weight quickly, and is making a good number of wet and dirty diapers, you don't need to worry! Babies go through growth spurts and phases where they eat more or less for a few days. My guess is that in a couple of days, he'll be starving all the time, and you'll have the opposite problem. :) Just remember that your body is designed to make the amount of milk your baby needs. If the baby wants more milk, they nurse more, and then your body will make more. Its a beautiful system!

You know what to look for and that is good, the wet diapers. Did your hospital give you a hand pump to take home? If you have one, try putting some of your breastmilk into a bottle and see if he drinks it. If so, maybe he needs help latching on. Do you feel your breasts having the 'let down' while he is sucking? Usually when they are eating and you feel let down they will start gulping. Or if you don't experience the let down, see if you can hear him swallowing. If so, that means he is drinking.

You might want to call your doctor's office and get the nurse's advice, but I think that if he is gaining weight appropriately there is nothing to worry about. He will gradually take in more so that his feedings will be 4 hours apart.

your breast milk shoots into his mouth like a bullet and it can fill them up fast and your son is only 14 days old and his stomach is still very very small believe me when hes older you will wish it would end that quickly.

your milk flow has regulated and he is more efficient at getting the milk out. This is a natural and healthy development.
