Depends on what you are interested in. I always like the Woodford Folk Festival which is held from Christmas - New Years Day in Woodford, just north of Brisbane. Its a week of every type of music you can name, plus crafts, art classes, debates, you name it. Its got an "alternative" slant, but everyone and anyone goes there. Heaps of people camp there as its held on a huge property. Its always a great experience.

Goldfield Ashes Cricket weekend (Australia Day weekend) at Charters Towers QLD is a FABULOUS weekend if you like cricket or just want something entirely different. People go from all over Australia and from overseas. Serious cricket and just-for-fun cricket. More than 150 fields (so you can imagine what some of them look like!) Great family weekend..
