One year olds are often just starting to walk or about to walk, so those push toys where it actually supports them a bit are great. It doesn't have to be spendy, even one that has a long handle and lights up when they push it as they stand up. Leapfrog toys are the very best of all and if you do search online and go to age level you will find the best and then go to you local store and find it or go to ebay and buy it. Also, a small child at this age can never have too many board books, because they can look at them by themselves if the parents are too busy. Board books have big heavy pages that can;t be destroyed. They also love cd's, like at Walmart in the baby section they have baby cd's of lullabies but also one about dancing for like $10 and my grands love it. Also, Sandra Boynton is a marvelous author of this age and she has board books and the stories are so so funny and they rhyme and that is excellent for the educational aspect of the child. Also try babycenter.com and just see what they have for sale for this age group and then go to town and get one like it. I would suggest you not buy anything that takes the parents invovlement unless you are sure the parents will read to them or play with them. some great books if the parent reads to them are : Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown, or any by her, and also her Goodnight Moon, search amazon.com for ideas, go to them then choose books then it will give you age levels and it will show you and if you go there check out Sandra Boytons stuff (boynton sp )

Books! Go to the children's section of your local bricks and mortar bookstore. Some great authors for that age group are Karen Katz (lift-the-flap books), Sandra Boynton, and Eric Carle. And you can hardly go wrong with the classic titles such as Curious George or Winnie The Pooh. Get board books, kids that age are hard on books.

This would be a good age to get her interested in reading.
Get her a book with a lot of different pictures in it. Like an ABC book which has a letter on the page and pictures of things that begin with that letter.

Something to improve her language and motor skills, that is fun as well. Leap Frog has some excellent products.

Well, on the subject of toys it depends on what they like. My daughter at that age was all about balls. But some kids aren't as impressed with balls.

toys and other stuff are common things you give to a one year old baby, give the baby something practical like disposable diapers, those would really help and it will be appreciated not only by the baby but also by the parents, if you know the milk formula, that would be best...
