Almost a third of XBOX 360 are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 3%.
Let's compare them
PS3 has 7+1 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3x2
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 50 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual DVD (9.5 gb).
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in card reader (except 20 gb version), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $
Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of doom" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 8 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it.
Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.
In 2008 we'll get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4 and other great exclusives. Here is the great link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html......
PS3 online world will be free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.
In some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".
The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console.
Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years.
I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it.

Only buy a console for the games it has now. It's all too often that upcoming games get delayed, even canceled or end up on multiple platforms at the last minute.
Like you, I would want a PS3 for many of the series I enjoyed with the PS2, however, many of those games are still years in the future - Final Fantasy XIII isn't expected in English for at least another, for instance.
If you want to buy something now, get a 360. It sounds like there's plenty there to keep you busy. Keep your PS2 - there are still a few games still planned for it over the next 6 months at least.
As for problems with the 360, Microsoft has (silently) been making changes to the hardware, namely, changing the DVD drive, improving the construction of the heatsink, etc. These fixes have been in the field for months now, so buying a new 360 shouldn't be a problem. Microsoft has also extended the warranty on ALL 360s to 3 years from the date of purchase, so if anything did go wrong with your 360, you're covered nearly until 2011.
As for the PS3...well, all we can do is wait and see. Some Playstation titles have already moved to the 360 - such as Ace Combat and Katamari Damacy. Even other standbys, like Metal Gear Solid, may end up releasing on both consoles. Again, all we can do is wait and see.
Since you mentioned Kingdom Hearts, you'll probably want to check out Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata - both of which are on the 360.

get a 360. those playstation fanboys take their little ps3 and their blu-ray to the grave. ps3 has yet to release a killer app exclusive. they talk about killzone 2, well im sorry my friends, but why make a sequel to a game that sucked more bum than a vintage bum sucker. the graphics are so similar that there is no winner, no fan boys, im sorry, ps3 doesnt have better graphics they are almost 100% equal. half of the 'exclusives' that these fan boys talk about, are also gonna be available on the 360, so i dont know what they are talking about. with a ps3 you get a DVD player, an internet browser, wifi, blahblahblah. ok so why are you buying it then? why not use your own computer, whats the point??? the 360 is hands THE gaming console, ps3, just another computer, marketed as a console. at least with a computer, you can upgrade its hardware. 360's DONT break anymore, let it go fanboys. and about the ps3 controllers, they must have designed those things for SMALL hands cause when i played it at gamestop, my hands were cramping for hours, VERY uncomfortable, and i hear they are VERY east to break. sony has never really released any good games EVER. yeah, i said it. they do nothing but make fighting and racing games, and little boy fantasy games.....then they re-make them again and again. GTA4 is also on the 360. Halo 3, the biggest selling game EVER, is on the 360. best multiplayer game EVER. Gears of War 1, and 2 soon to come, also 360. 360 makes games more aimed at the 'mature' audience, when sony makes the kind of games you see kids and those weird guys at the coffee house that smell like liguid cheese playing. get a 360, hands down the best GAMING console ever. you're hands wont get cramped, you WONT get bored of playing the best games to have ever existed, and you wont have to sit there and think, 'why did i buy this thing?' cause even in yahoo answers, ive seen people say that their ps3's are collecting thick dust.

I think you should buy the 360. First of all I think you should buy the 360 because you already like it a lot and you didnt really like the PS3. The games that the 360 has right now are awesome and its only going to get better this holiday season. The PS3 doesnt have a lot of games right now and you are going to have to wait a long time for new games which are probably going to be on the 360. About the 360 scratching disks, it only happens if you tilt the console when you are playing a game, so dont move your 360 while its reading a game (I know from experience).

The 360 only scratches disk if you move it when the disk is still spinning inside the 360.
The PS3 is lacking games compared to the 360 because the 360 has been out 1 year longer. The PS3 is starting to catch up to the 360 in terms of games. If your cousin has a 360, just go over to his house and play it.
You get the PS3, and you can let your cousin come over when he wants to play PS3 games. Or you can switch systems when someone wants to play one system while the other person wants to play the other system.
There is no way that the 360 is getting 33% exclusive games. That's a huge number for any system in this day and age. The 360 is getting maybe 5% exclusive games.

PS3 Issues: Not as many people own it. 23 Million people have PS3s 27 million people have Xbox. Not a huge difference. People don't talk as much when they play online. Not a big deal either but it's out there. Xbox issues: Red Ring of Death- When the Xbox over heats it lights up all red and breaks down. 33% of all Xboxes get this a year. E74- A common error for Xboxes that makes them break, unlike the Red Ring this is not covered by the warranty. 33% Failure rate. You have to pay 50$ a year to play online. It's a scam it's cheaper than PS3 because it does not have built in Wi-fi you have to pay 100 extra $ to use it. PS3 is better.

PS3.
Screw all the fanboy B.S.
PS3 is just a better machine. It has sick exclusive games and in 2008 all the most hyped games will be on PS3.
Plus there are a ton of games out now and coming out every week for PS3.
360 is a good system but when you stand back and compare the 2, PS3 has 360 beat in basically all categories. I like my 360 but I love my PS3. Its unreal.

you should buy xbox360 not ps3.okay .bcz there is no good games for PS3 out in the market.and the xbox360 have long lineup and 33% of games are xbox360 exclusive.
so you are worried that xbox360 will scratch ur disk.so dont worry about it bcz it will not scratch our disk.
most of the people say that xbox360 scratch the disks.its completelt wrong. The disk scratches bcz of their fault.
most of the people who stated this problem, they change the position of their xbox360(from horizontal to vertical or from vertical to horizontal) while playing game on it.when the Disk is inside the xbox360 then u are not suppose to change the stance of ur xbox360.bcz at that time the disk is swinging at its full speed and when u change the position of 360 then some parts of the disk touches the plastic material which is inside the 360(i mean the internal body of the 360) so then it gets scratched.
thats the main reason why the disks of xbox360 got scratched.
so dont afraid of xbox360 okay.its the best console of all times.
so go and buy it.bcz MICROSOFT have extended their warranty to 3 years.
so dont afraid for any hardware failure bcz MS will replace ur system if its hardware fails to work in 3 years of time.
i hope you understand and i hope your mind will be clear about the issues you have stated.
take care.

PS3 is $499 and the Xbox 360 Elite is $479. $20 dollar difference...
PS3 games produced are on Hd 50gig blueray (more space for better graphics without sacrificing game levels and game size..) GTA4 developers even stated that the game will have better graphics and gaming on the ps3 version and are having issues with the 360 version because of 8gig dvd game format... They may have to make the 360 version on multiple disc so if you like getting out of your chair alot while playing, .....
360-elite games produced on dual layered 8gig dvds
game developers are finding the 360 format to limiting and finding that they have to sacrifice game graphics or gaming levels and challenges...
Ps3 for the extra $20 you get a full HD entertainment system that also surfs the internet. You can goto any website and watch or download videos like YouTube...You can access your email and print it etcc...
Ps3 Blueray hd movie player that also upscales regular dvds movies to HD...It also upscales ps2 games to hd..
Ps3 comes with rechargeable controllers...
Ps3 comes with free online play and Wifi
All of the above the 360-elite can't do.
360 and elite -For hd movies you have to buy the hddvd player for $200. For
360 elite for quick charge kit you have to buy it for $20.
360 elite no interent browser
Ps3 hdmi 1.3 (supports deep color)
360-elite- 1.2 doesn't support deepcolor 1.3
Ps3 Nvidia RSX GPU Graphics at least two years ahead of it's time. And programmers aren't even close to using it's full potential yet.
360-elite is hardware locked into outdated DX9 graphics-Game programmers are developoing for DX10 (full 4d and 3d motion realism)
THe ps3 8cell broadband processors. CPU-Designed specifically for highspeed calculations (Games Capable of more AI charactors )
Xbox 360 -Elite-- The New 65NM CHip....Isn't any different then what they used in the 360 core except it cost less to produce....
Ps3 you can buy any external usb harddrive and hook it up loaded with music videos , etc...You can buy any brand 2.5 ata harddrive and upgrade the harddrive size for ps3...
THe elite and 360 requires Microsoft harddrives only- for a 20gig it's $100, for the 120 it's $189
360 -elite for wifi you have to pay an additional $100 and online gaming is $50 a year...And for that $50 a year to play online you also get stuck with third party in menu advertising...
To use 60% of what the 360 and elite can do you have to buy the addons and you'll spend over $750 before you even insert a game.
THe elite and new 360s hdmi, 65nm, red ring of death--Microsoft has no Idea what the cause is, You can't fix what you can't find. So yes they are all vulnerable.
Get the ps3 you can use it for so much more. We own all three. THe wii, elite and ps3,
