I was in the process of signing up for a trading account with zecco, when it asked me for a Government ID number. This field was in the middle of a few drivers license questions, so i figured that it was my DL number. It had a separate field for a S.S. number. When i went to confirm, it asked me to verify that i entered my correct Taxpayer ID number under penalty of perjury. This is when I got confused. Did I enter the correct numbers? I am only 19 and I have never filed taxes, simply because I've never had a job "on the books", so I don't know of any other ID numbers. Help would be appreciated. I really don't want to go to federal prison today... I'd like to save that for when i get enough experience for insider trading!!! That was a Joke....

For an individual your SSN is your tax payer ID number.
However, I've seen enough questions regarding Zecco to convince me their customer service is very poor. You should go to a broker that will provide you with help when you need it.

Your Social Security Number usually ends up being your Taxpayer Number as well. But to be on the safe side, follow Kate's advice and check with Zecco. ( I never heard of them.) Good success with your investing!!

Any questions about particular entries should be directed to zecco .
( Is that a real brokerage ?)
Anyway , they should have a customer service that can give you an accurate answer .
Or would you rather have the "go straight to jail" answer from non- zecco employees on yahoo Q&A ?

I can't follow your logic.

A number which was required in order to obtain a drivers license could not be the drivers license number BECAUSE the drivers license number would not be known BEFORE you get the license.

rather trouble-free, I did the comparable ingredient yet transferred from Sharebuilder to Scottrade. bypass all the way down to E-commerce and open and account. they provides you with a form to fill out that enables them to request a pass of your shares devoid of liquefy them. I did have complication with Sharebuilder, even nevertheless, and eventually had to deliver them authorization plus a replica of my drivers license. they're going to in basic terms pass total shares, so in case you have a dividend reinvestment plan set up with Sharebuilder and very own any partial shares they're going to liquidate those.

Contact the company directly by email or phone and ask.
Make sure they are legit before you send any of your hard earned money.
