Ledgends about what happened to the original Bowie knife?

I thought it went with James Bowie at the Alamo .

The movie, with Alan Ladd, had him throw the original knife in the Mississippi River. It has also been stated that he had it at the Alamo, and that it was probably taken by a Mexican soldier, who did not what he had, historically.
