Okay. My friend got one for a party and me and my other friend were trying to find out if they were real and stuff. Any other info will help

You mean Ouija board.
It is supposed to work on psychic energy. You ask it a question, put your hands on a pointer and the pointer moves to an answer on the board.
It's all nonsense, of course. If there are any correct answers, it is purely coincidence, or that one of the players is "guiding" the pointer.
