I don't know why, but cleaning brings out the WORST in me. I know I have to do it to live in a clean environment, but I go from cheerful and ambitious to being angry, FRUSTRATED, and bored.

How do you make cleaning a more fulfilling, pleasant task? Music helps somewhat, and I clean late at night, because it's depressing to be in the house during the day.

I get fatigued easily, so any ideas to remedy that while doing physical work?

Any innovative ideas? I'm such a damn slob (TRUST ME), so anyone on the planet is an acceptable "housecleaning" authority to me. =P

Why don't you try flylady.net it is a very easy and simple way to clean your house. They will tell you what to do day by day, and by starting a habit of cleaning your house. You can do anything for 15 minutes. Check into it you just might enjoy it .
They don't suggest that you try to clean the whole house and 1 day.
I only do what applies to me and I have got a lot more accomplished.

What really helps me is the knowing that working at it a little bit at a time keeps me from having to devote alot of effort. If I let the housework go I have to work all the harder to get things clean and to get it done. If I sweep each day and put dishes in the dishwasher as I go, etc it takes much less time. Besides, the house looks nicer when it's neat and clean. That helps, too.

Are you eating a good enough breakfast that does not wear you down? Eat protein for breakfast, yogurt, stay away from the fried eggs, and bread products.

Give yourself a BIG REWARD at the end of the cleaning session.

A scoop or two of ice cream.

Break down your cleaning sessions. Weds dust/vacuum, mop.
Thursdays laundry, Sunday kitchen clean up, generally do this oen often enough to combat a possible bug infestation., Tuesday Bathroom.

Radio on to music and go for it, doing the big chores majorly over the whole house. Don't piddle to finish a room by doing every task. Sweep the whole house, straighten the whole house generally, then work down to finer items. Etc.

I found that listening to books on tapes help me. If I have a good suspense novel, the story actually takes my focus off the tasks. If I get to a good part, I actually look for more to do and I'm done before you know it.

Do you like to read? Got a portable CD player an/or tape player? Check out your local library for Books on Tape (or CD). It works to play them on your stereo but it is much more immersive through headphones. Gets me and my wife both through otherwise boring chores in a great mood!

Try cleaning one or two rooms a day. Two if they are small, one if it is large. In that way you don't have time to be depressed, and it will only take ten to fifteen minutes.

i would have suggested music, but you tried that already :)
give yourself rewards, make yourself think you have to earn an hour of watching tv, or order pizza or rent a movie...and don"t do it all at once.
or... listen to an audio book instead of music!
hope this helps... :)
