Owning a vehicle is an open wound that never heals. It just keeps on bleeding.

The most I spent was almost ten grand. But that wasn't repairing a car. That was getting a car on the road. When I was a teenager, I bought a car and fixed it up. By the time I was 17, I had her on the road and had my own car!!!

I haven't spent much money on my car yet because I just got it on Friday. I only spent $11 on air fresheners, lol. But my mom has spent lots on cars. She rented a car one time and it broke down, she had to pay $400 to replace the fuel pump. Then a few years ago, she bought a nice little car for $3000 cash, and she spent almost $4500 maintaining it. We live in New York, so the streets are horrible, and her muffler kept cracking and she kept having to replace it. If you live in a place with smooth roads, it's better to have a car because you won't spend as much money maintaining it.

It *can* be expensive -- for the most part, if you keep up with "routine maintenance" things... checking your oil & fluid levels... keep up your tire pressure ... the total cost per year in maintaining your car shouldn't be TOO much.

It's those times when something serious BREAKS (like when I blew out the head gasket & threw out a valve rod) where it costs big bucks. ($1400)

Never go to Pep Boys. They charged me $90 for a new battery. My co-worker went there for a battery AND got a diagnostic test and was charged $65.
