I personally would use the term "Obnoxious". I think most do it to feel better about themselves. In their minds it enables them to feel superior to that someone else that they are critical of and to overcome their internal fear of being inferior.

Fault finders. And addicts (of one kind or another) who use because "It is YOUR fault". It is always someone else's fault so that they use it as an excuse to use!

Very sneaky and hard to counteract. I do not believe that I am the cause of a drinker's drinking, or a doper's using. So there! And so I go to alanon meetings to really find out how to attain serenity.

Perhaps the person is stuck in the wrong neighborhood ( Palookaville) and will make tracks out of it as soon as they are able. Water tends to seek its own level, so why not wish them well?

Why would they do it? Typically one tears down others when one is insecure themselves, or the individual threatens them in some subconscious way.
